Peachtree DeKalb Airport (KPDK)

Peachtree DeKalb Airport (KPDK) is a general aviation airport in DeKalb County, GA that handles a number of FBOs and is home to flight school's such as American Air, Atlanta Flyers, and DeKalb Flight School. Under the supervision of JR Richardson at American Air Flight School, I got a glimpse of the process of establishing a career in professional piloting. As an assistant to the main flight dispatcher at AAFT, I saw the daily operations of a very non-typical flight school that handles serious prospective pilots. The daily routine of aircraft prep on the ramp, maintenance scheduling, and flight dispatching was a lot more exciting than I thought- even at an average temperature of 95 degrees outside. JR Richardson has been a great person to work for/with. I've learned a lot from him beyond the realms of the aviation industry.

I'm also fond of The Downwind Restaurant in operation right above the office. I'm sure The Downwind has been around for a while, probably even when PDK was Naval Air Station Atlanta. The Downwind does have great burgers by the way. For pilots planning to make a $100 burger trip to KPDK, go for it! The Downwind Restaurant offers great meals + an excellent view of airplanes on the runways. KPDK is also home to Business Aviation FBOs such as EPPS and Signature Flights. I walked over to EPPS for free coffee and to check out some magnificent business jets parked in the hangar.
