Interesting story on NY Times today about the not-so-glamorous lives of pilots flying for regionals.
"The National Transportation Safety Board’s inquiry into the Feb. 12 crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 outside Buffalo has highlighted the operations of the nation’s regional airlines, a sector of the aviation industry that has grown to account for half the country’s airline flights and a quarter of its passengers.

" For many carriers, IFEs are a nice add-on or a nice frill; for us, they’re absolutely essential. On those flights, IFE is as important as food, which is keeping passengers satisfied.

Pilot Singing Before Crashing: Garuda Pilot

Report found the pilot was “singing” during the approach, which was “not in accordance with the Garuda Basic Operations Manual policy for a sterile cockpit below 10,000 feet”.
“The pilot was probably emotionally aroused because his conscious awareness moved from the relaxed mode “singing” to the heightened stressfulness of the desire to reach the runway by making an excessively steep and fast, unstabilised approach,” the report said.
