(WIRED) -- Oh sure, Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner is made of composite materials and it's super fuel efficient, but unless you own an airline, the only thing you care about is how comfortable it is. Boeing knows this, and has striven to give passengers an experience unlike any other airplane.

Poor Pilots Flying For Regionals

Interesting story on NY Times today about the not-so-glamorous lives of pilots flying for regionals.
"The National Transportation Safety Board’s inquiry into the Feb. 12 crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 outside Buffalo has highlighted the operations of the nation’s regional airlines, a sector of the aviation industry that has grown to account for half the country’s airline flights and a quarter of its passengers.
How to Survive A Water Landing

Your flight crashes into the water... what would you do?
Pay attention to those pre-flight SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS from the cabin crew.
All that...and then some

So, random thought at almost-lunchtime on a Monday: airport security. That's right..I'm talking about airport securitaaaay.
Maybe it's not as apparent to people like me-aka, those born in the late 80s-but DANG, security is a whole other affair when we get to the airport. Of course, there's good reason but have you ever really thought about what we go through every time we travel commercial? Well, here's a rundown in case you've forgotten or haven't traveled in the last decade:
1. Take those shoes off buddy...and dont even think about walking through with that coat.
"It Never Is" from Row 22, Seats A&B

After being stranded in Chicago O’Hare for 7 hours, I was glad to find some consolation from a Row 22, Seats A&B two-part story by Frederick Waterman in United’s Hemispheres in-flight magazine. Here’s an excerpt from It Never Is - a story about a salesman and a priest sitting in row 22, trading tales of cards, faith, bargains, and women…
"The Illusion of Control" : James Boyd on IFEs

James Boyd - VP of Singapore Airlines’ public relations for the Americas - described the importance of In-flight Entertainment (IFE) in IEEE's (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) September issue :
" For many carriers, IFEs are a nice add-on or a nice frill; for us, they’re absolutely essential. On those flights, IFE is as important as food, which is keeping passengers satisfied.
